Taraji P. Henson on Playing a Real-Life Character: "You Want to Get it Right" | Actress Oscar Roundtable

The Hollywood Reporter

"To me, [Hidden Figures] is about humanity, humans coming together, focusing on one goal," Taraji P. Henson told The Hollywood Reporter during the Actress Oscar Roundtable. Henson said her character's love of numbers is comparable to her own love of acting. "It was in me to do it. It's in me."

"It's hard, it's always hard," Henson said of minorities working in the entertainment industry. "I've have white friends, blonde hair, blue eyes that ain't worked in five years."

"Have we seen enough representation of African American stories? No. But has Hollywood been horrible to me? No," the Oscar nominated actress went on to say. "I've worked. Did I get paid what I deserve is the question we should be talking about."

More roundtables featuring, screenwriters, songwriters, documentarians, directors, composers and producers will continue throughout February in print and online. Tune in to new episodes of Close Up With 'The Hollywood Reporter' starting Jan. 15 on Sundance TV, and look for clips at THR.com/topic/roundtables with full episodes on THR.com after broadcast.
