Who Won 'Survivor: Cambodia — Second Chance'?

Warning: This recap of the “Lie, Cheat and Steal” episode of Survivor contains spoilers.

After 39 days filled with blindside after blindside, Jeremy Collins unanimously won Survivor: Cambodia — Second Chance. Jeremy was able to outwit, outplay, and outlast 19 other players, including Spencer Bledsoe and Tasha Fox, who made it to the final tribal council. The season — which began with viewers deciding on the cast — was universally considered among the show’s best, with host Jeff Probst calling it “an electrifying season to watch.”

The two-hour finale kicked off with a stunning turn of events: Both Jeremy and fifth-place finisher Kelley Wentworth used their hidden immunity idols to negate the votes against them. That meant for the first time in the 31 seasons of Survivor history, a tribal council vote ended with no valid votes against anyone. Probst initiated another vote, with Jeremy and Kelley safe from elimination (along with Spencer, who’d won the immunity challenge).

That vote ended with a tie between Tasha and Kimmi Kappenberg, so Probst prompted the remaining four players who could vote to discuss amongst themselves. The choice was: an unanimous vote against Tasha; an unanimous vote against Kimmi; or to end in another deadlock. But if they deadlocked, both Tasha and Kimmi would be safe, which would result in the elimination of Keith Nale by default. Ultimately, Keith’s ally Kelley decided they should switch their votes, and Kimmi was sent home.

It was a wild, confusing tribal council — Probst even had to illustrate it on a screen at the live finale in Los Angeles. But it proved just how captivating and unpredictable Survivor can still be, even after 31 seasons.

The other two tribal councils produced some moments of doubt. But in a season of blindsides, they ended with predictable results: Keith eliminated, then Kelley.

In the final tribal council, Jeremy, Spencer, and Tasha all made their cases. But Jeremy’s final, emotional plea on why he was playing this second chance — for his wife, Val, and his children, including his unborn son — seemed to seal the deal.

Survivor will return for a 32nd season next spring on CBS.
