‘Supergirl’ Casts ‘Teen Wolf’ Star As Superman

Supergirlhas found its Superman. When Melissa Benoist’s Girl of Steel joins the Arrow, the Flash, and the Legends of Tomorrow on The CW this fall, she’ll be joined by her Kryptonian cousin, who has otherwise been a “best heard, not seen” character on the series so far. For Season 2, though, the Last Son of Krypton will finally have a face, and he’ll look a lot like Tyler Hoechlin. The Teen Wolf star takes flight in a role previously played on The CW by Smallville’s Tom Welling, who portrayed a pre-Superman Clark Kent for 10 seasons.

Hoechlin actually has comic book roots that pre-date his Supergirl assignment. At the age of 14, he won the coveted role of Tom Hanks’s son in Road to Perdition, the Sam Mendes-directed adaptation of an acclaimed graphic novel. In addition to his role as Derek Hale on Teen Wolf, the actor will also appear in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey sequels, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.

Hoechlin will make his debut as Superman early on in Supergirl’s second season, although fans shouldn’t expect Clark to make a permanent move from Metropolis to National City anytime soon. For now, the show’s producers are still planning to keep him a recurring presence. Still, Supergirl and Superman are poised to become The CW’s leading dynamic duo… at least until Batman and Robin show up.

The second season of Supergirl will premiere in the fall on The CW.
