The Last Ship’s John Pyper-Ferguson has been cast in the recurring role of Jack Soloff, an up-and-coming partner. “He’s not new to the firm, but he’s new to the audience,” creator Aaron Korsh says. “He’s been voted head of the compensation committee, and that puts him in a position, in his mind, to raise his profile with the firm and seek a little increased power, and that’s going to cause trouble. Given what had already happened at the end of last year, it’s just an added element of tension, drama, et cetera, for our crew.”

Pyper-Ferguson will make his debut in the June 24 season premiere, which finds Harvey (Gabriel Macht) still in denial about needing a new secretary now that Donna (Sarah Rafferty) has left him to work for Louis (Rick Hoffman). “We explore what happens to each one of them when this shift has occurred,” Korsh says of the trio. “There can be jealousy, anger, bitterness, forgiveness, humor — so they ping-pong between those things in the space of what’s also going on at the firm.”

Season 5 of Suits premieres June 24 at 9 p.m. on USA.
