Steven Avery’s Ex-Fiancée Believes He’s Guilty

Convicted murderer Steven Avery’s ex-fiancée Jodi Stachowski, who was featured in the Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer, took part in an exclusive interview, which aired on Nancy Grace Wednesday evening. When asked if she believed Making a Murderer subject Steven Avery was guilty of murdering Teresa Halbach, Stachowski replied, “Yes I do.”

Despite Stachowski’s support of her then fiancée in Making a Murderer, she now describes her relationship with Avery as one fraught with domestic violence. Stachowski claimed, “He beat me all the time, punched me, threw me against the wall.” She described Avery as a mercurial individual, stating, “He’s like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; he’s a nice person, or semi-nice person, and then behind closed doors he’s a monster.”

Stachowski also claimed that her earlier support for Avery, as seen in the documentary, came under duress, “Steven had called me and told me — it should all be on police records — that if I didn’t say anything good and nice about him I’d pay.”

While Stachowski never testified in the criminal trial, the accounts of her relationship with Steven Avery are sure to add to the already rampant public opinions and speculation concerning his innocence.

Nancy Grace airs Mon-Thurs at 3pm & 8pm on HLN.
