Sterling K. Brown threw Emmys-inspired shade at Nicole Kidman

On The Late Show, This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown threw some good-natured shade at Nicole Kidman for her lengthy acceptance speech at the Emmys. Kidman, who won for her role in Big Little Lies, spoke for nearly three minutes. Brown, while accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama, was cut off after less than two minutes.

“Listen, man. Not everybody can be pretty Australian white women who have already won Oscars in the past,” Brown said, before adding, “Not that I’m blaming her. It’s not her fault.”

Brown finished his speech backstage while addressing the media and even found a silver lining.

“I got a chance to make the speech even longer because I got to do it backstage. It was perfect,” Brown said.

Stephen Colbert, who hosted the Emmys, said that he tried to stop the production team from cutting Brown off but was too late getting to the stage because he didn’t think they’d actually do it.
