Starz’s Marta Fernandez & Karen Bailey Upped To SVP Original Programming

Marta Fernandez and Karen Bailey have been promoted to SVP of original programming for Starz. Based in Beverly Hills and reporting to Starz managing director Carmi Zlotnik, Fernandez and Bailey will oversee development and current productions. Starz’s upcoming series include Da Vinci’s Demons (2013) with David Goyer and BBC Worldwide Prods., the final season of Spartacus, Spartacus: War of the Damned (2013), the second season of Magic City (2013), and the pirate drama Black Sails (2014) from Michael Bay and Jon Steinberg.

Fernandez has been at Starz since 2007 and was promoted to VP of originals in 2010. She led the development and production of the Spartacus franchise, Boss, Da Vinci’s Demons and Black Sails. Bailey joined Starz in 2006 as a feature producer, overseeing the development and production for the company’s studio slate of TV movies and mini-series for external networks such as Syfy, Lifetime and IFC. Bailey also served as executive producer on a number of projects for Starz’s home entertainment division, Anchor Bay Films. Promoted to VP of production in 2010, Bailey oversaw the production for Starz’s early original series, Crash and Party Down, and later Spartacus. In 2011, Bailey joined the creative team as VP of original programming overseeing Magic City in Miami. She also helped forge partnerships with production entities in New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and China.
