‘Star Trek Beyond’ To Have World Premiere During Comic-Con With Live Imax Event

Fans of Star Trek Beyond who also happen to be in San Diego for Comic Con 2016 are in for a big treat. Minutes ago during a fan event held tonight on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles, Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin announced that the film will have its world premiere gala during Comic Con 2016. What’s more, the premiere will be an outdoor Imax event with a full orchestra performing.

“We’re partnering with comic con and are going to do our premiere in San Diego,” Lin told the crowd. “I believe its going to be the first time ever IMAX outdoors. We’ll have a full orchestra.”

Comic-Con confirmed the news just moments later on the event’s official site. “This first-ever outdoor IMAX premiere event will include appearances by the film’s cast and crew, and a live concert performance by the San Diego symphony orchestra,” the announcement said.

In addition, JJ Abrams confirmed that everyone attending tonight’s fan event would be given credentials to attend the screening in San Diego. The Gala is happening Wednesday, July 20, the same day as the annual preview night that kicks off the convention. Star Trek Beyond then hits theaters wide on July 22.

From Paramount Pictures and Skydance, Star Trek Beyond is a Bad Robot, Sneaky Shark, Perfect Storm Entertainment production. The film stars John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and Idris Elba. Directed by Justin Lin, the third film in the franchise series is produced by J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, Lindsey Weber, and Justin Lin; and executive produced by Jeffrey Chernov, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Tommy Harper. Based upon Star Trek created by Gene Roddenberry, the screenplay is written by Simon Pegg & Doug Jung.
