Unusual Auditions of Oscar Stars
Chloë Grace Moretz
Chloë Grace Moretz, going Anglophile. The precocious talent, who already knew how to "Kick-Ass," went undercover to get the role of Isabelle in "Hugo" (2011), which won five Oscars. "My mum came to me with the script and told me [director] Martin Scorsese was making a movie with kid leads, but I didn't stand a chance as he was only auditioning British girls," the young actress explained to the Observer (Australia). "I said, 'No way, we are going full steam ahead with this one!'" She kept up the scheme when she was face to face with Scorsese and let her accent slip only when the audition was over. She told New York Magazine, "I actually tricked him. ... It was hilarious." And she called him Marty, to boot.
