Harry Potter alum Rupert Grint is set to star in and executive produce Snatch, the new series for Sony’s streaming network Crackle, which is based on the cult 2000 Sony movie of the same name that starred Jason Statham and Brad Pitt.

Also cast in the straight-to-series drama are Dougray Scott (Fear the Walking Dead) as a regular and Ed Westwick (Wicked City) as a recurring guest star. Nick Renton (The Musketeers) will direct.

Originally announced at Crackle’s upfront presentation, Snatch will carry the spirit of the setting in the film, while creating a new world with new characters. Inspired by a real life heist in London, Snatch, centers on a group of twenty-something, up-and-coming hustlers who stumble upon a truck load of stolen gold bullion and are suddenly thrust into the high-stakes world of organized crime. The boys must quickly learn to navigate the treacherous waters of London’s underworld as rogue cops, gypsy fighters, international mobsters and local villains descend.

Grint will play the dynamic, frustratingly chaotic and utterly posh con man, Charlie Cavendish. Scott plays Vic Hill, who continues the con game from inside prison; Westwick plays night club owner Sonny Castillo.

Production on the 10-episode first season begins next week in Manchester, England. The series will premiere in 2017. Alex De Rakoff also serves as executive producer and Helen Flint produces for Little Island Productions.

Snatch is part of a growing drama series portfolio at Crackle, joining StartUp which premieres September 6, and The Art of More, which will be returning for a second season later this year.

Grint most recently was seen on Broadway opposite Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane in It’s Only a Play, and he also stars opposite Nick Frost and Don Johnson in the upcoming six-part Sky Atlantic comedy Sick Note. He is repped by Gersh, Management 360, UK’s Hamilton Hodell and Sloane Offer.
