‘Slenderman’ Documentary From HBO Drops First Trailer

It was a horrific crime that took place in the middle of the country. Twelve-year-old Payton Leutner from Waukesha, Wisconsin was stabbed 19 times by two of her friends after they lured her into the woods during a slumber party because they thought a fake internet ghoul named Slenderman told them to do it. HBO just released its first trailer for its documentary on the subject called Beware the Slenderman which explores the crime and the reasons behind it, thereby exposing the dark recesses of the internet and its influence on the minds of children. The film was directed by Irene Taylor Brodsky and written by Brodsky and Sophie Harris. The crime took place on May 31, 2014.

The Slenderman is a fictional boogeyman that was created in 2009 for a photoshop contest for an online website and then became an internet sensation. The creation is of a very tall and faceless man in a black suit who lurks in the woods, has tentacles and preys on children. Leutner, who dragged herself to the side of a road while bleeding out, is still alive and her two attackers are now going through criminal court.

Here’s a look at the new trailer for the documentary which will premiere on HBO on January 23:
