‘American Gigolo’ TV Series Adaptation Set At Showtime From Paramount TV, Jerry Bruckheimer & Neil LaBute
EXCLUSIVE: Paramount TV and Jerry Bruckheimer Television’s American Gigolo series adaptation has landed at Showtime for development. Playwright Neil LaBute is set to write the show — a drama set in present day inspired by the iconic 1980 film that embodied the “wish fulfillment” glossy culture of Los Angeles.
Paramount TV originally joined forces with Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the film noir classic starring Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton, to explore a TV series adaptation in 2014.
Executive producing the American Gigolo series are Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman of Jerry Bruckheimer TV. KristieAnne Reed serves as co-executive producer; and James Oh as producer. The film’s writer-director, Paul Schrader, is an executive consultant.

In addition to American Gigolo, Jerry Bruckheimer TV is producing a TV series based on another movie produced by Bruckheimer, Enemy of the State. The project is set up at ABC with put pilot commitment. The company also has drama series Lucifer at Fox.
American Gigolo is one of several TV series based on Paramount movie titles that Paramount TV has in development at various networks. The list includes The Italian Job drama in the works at NBC and a Shutter Island series at HBO with Martin Scorsese. Three-year-old Paramount TV is coming off winning its first Emmy awards — five, including special class program — for its Fox musical Grease: Live, based on the iconic movie. The company’s slate includes 8 on-air series, Nickelodeon’s School of Rock, nominated for best Children’s Program Emmy and currently airing its second season; the upcoming Jack Ryan on Amazon, with Platinum Dunes and Skydance from Carlton Cuse starring John Krasinski; Thirteen Reasons Why, based on the bestselling YA book by Jay Asher, directed by Tom McCarthy, written by Brian Yorkey and produced by Selena Gomez; and the Cary Fukunaga-directed Maniac at Netflix, starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill — both at Netflix with Anonymous Content; Shooter at USA, starring Ryan Philippe and Omar Epps; Berlin Station at Epix, with Anonymous Content from Olen Steinhauer; The Alienist at TNT also with Anonymous Content from Cary Fukunaga, Eric Roth and Hossein Amini; and Bajillion Dollar Properie$ at NBCU’s digital streaming platform Seeso.
