Sherée’s Abusive Relationship Brings Real Housewives to Tears

It was an emotional reunion on The Real Housewives of Atlanta (Reunion Part 2) as Sherée Whitfield opened up about her emotionally and physically abusive ex-husband, Bob Whitfield. After Bob and Sherée went on a trip to Maui in which he “joked” on camera that he didn’t choke her hard enough because she could still breathe, the abuse she suffered at his hands 19 years earlier became public information and Sherée had to deal with her dark secret.

Sherée only recently told her mother about it, and she hadn’t talked about it with her children at all, not knowing if they had seen the RHOA episode in which Bob said terrible things to her.

With the show reaching a wide audience, Sherée found support in surprising places. Women would come up to her in public saying that they wanted to give her a hug or tell her that they had gone through the same thing.

Despite the reunions being known for fighting, the women put their differences aside to offer their support to Sherée, and Kenya encouraged her to open up to her daughters about what she went through in order to break the cycle of abuse.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on Bravo.
