Shawn Mendes and James Corden Battle in 1990s/2010’s Sing-Off

James Corden was interrupted on The Late Late Show by singer Shawn Mendes while he was playing Montell Jordan’s classic ’90s hit “This Is How We Do It.” Mendes complained that Corden doesn’t give enough love to the hits of today.

So the two entered into a riff-off, singing popular songs from their preferred decades. Mendes sang “Cheap Thrills” by Sia and James Corden sang “Jump” by Kriss Kross.

With the two in a musical dead heat, they had a very staged realization. Corden said, “Maybe there is a world in which music then and music today can exist together. And we could make that happen right now in one incredible moment.”

The two then sang a duet of TLC’s “No Scrubs,” because people who judge music solely by decades are definite busters.

The Late Late Show airs weeknights at 12:37 a.m. on CBS.
