Screen Media Films Picks U.S. Rights To ‘The Bad Batch’ – Toronto
Screen Media Films has acquired U.S. rights to Ana Lily Amirpour’s The Bad Batch, a day before its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. The deal, which was negotiated well into the night, comes after the film scored a Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival where it had its world premiere. With cameos by Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey and Diego Luna, the dystopian love story is set in a Texas wasteland among a community of cannibals and stars Suki Waterhouse, Jason Momoa, Giovanni Ribisi, and Yolonda Ross. Screen Media plans to release the film in the first quarter of next year.
The deal comes after Netflix picked up SVOD rights to the film earlier this month.
The Bad Batch was written and directed by Amirpour, produced by Sina Sayyah and Danny Gabai, co-produced by Sammy Scher, and executive produced by Megan Ellison, Eddy Moretti, and Shane Smith. The production companies are Annapurna Pictures and Vice.
The film, which will play at Fantastic Fest this month, is the follow-up to the director’s 2014 horror pic A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.
The deal was negotiated by Screen Media’s Seth Needle and Tom Yagielski, and CAA on behalf of the filmmakers, Annapurna Pictures and Vice Media.
