'Scream' Clip: Watch Bella Thorne's Re-enactment of Movie's Opening Scene

By Denise Petski

The opening of the original Scream (1996) with Drew Barrymore on the phone with Ghostface is one of the most iconic scenes in horror-movie history. Now MTV has released the first eight minutes of the opening of its series adaptation of the venerable film franchise with Bella Thorne. Watch the new clip above and the original opening scene with Barrymore at the bottom of the post.

Based on the hit horror franchise, Scream follows the aftermath of the apparent crime-of-passion murder of Nina (Thorne), a gorgeous, entitled teen at Lakewood High School. After artistic loner Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus) is “outed” via cyberbullying, she has to find a way to hold her head up with the help of Noah (John Karna), her nerdy, hyper-intelligent best friend, and a renewed relationship with Emma (Willa Fitzgerald), her former “bestie” from elementary school. In the meantime, Emma’s mom (Tracy Middendorf), the town’s medical examiner, works with Sheriff Hudson (Jason Wiles) to solve Nina’s murder and determine if it’s connected to a crime spree from the town’s dark past — murders committed by a previous generation’s “bullying victim,” Brandon James.

Scream also stars Carlson Young (Brooke) Amadeus Serafini (Kieran) John Karna (Noah) and Connor Weil (Will). It premieres at 10 PM Tuesday, June 30, on MTV. Compare the two opening scenes and tell is what you think.
