'Saturday Night Live' #TBT: Vanessa Bayer lets it all go

This year, three Saturday Night Live players are nominated in the best supporting actress in a comedy category at the Emmys — Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Vanessa Bayer.

Bayer left SNL in May after seven seasons. Over the years, she’s developed some lovably eccentric characters, including weather newscaster Dawn Lazarus and one of the Moet & Chandon girls. Her impression of Miley Cyrus was better than Miley Cyrus in person.

Bayer proved her versatility in the episode she submitted for Emmys consideration, the May 21 finale hosted by Dwayne Johnson. In this sketch, she and Johnson play classic cinema stars who keep ruining takes with… farts.

Yup, farts. Sure, it’s a bit juvenile, but farts are just funny. Period. The best part of the sketch is how hard Johnson and Bayer tried not to break as the sound department plays ever-more-ridiculous fart noises. Of course, it’s impossible for them to keep a totally straight face. That only adds to the sketch’s concept.

SNL returns for its 43rd season this fall.
