‘Saturday Night Live’ #TBT: Sorry, Not Everybody Can Be in ‘Star Wars’

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a mega blockbuster, to nobody’s surprise, after dominating the box office for three weeks. It’s earned nearly $450 million domestically and is expected to hit $1 billion worldwide once it opens in China.

Rogue One’s star Felicity Jones will host the first new Saturday Night Live of the year next week. The Oscar-nominated star was cast in the lead role of Jyn Erso after what was likely a grueling audition process. After all, being in a Star Wars movie is a highly coveted gig — as this SNL audition parody shows.

The parody features celebrities — real and played by cast members — trying out for The Force Awakens alongside that movie’s stars, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. A smarmy Javier Bardem jokes about his “light saber,” while Dame Maggie Smith has no idea what to do with her stormtrooper weapon. The real Emma Stone makes a joke about playing an Asian in Aloha, while Mad Men’s Jon Hamm tries out his personally-written line.

SNL returns with host Felicity Jones and musical guest Sturgill Simpson on Jan. 14.
