‘Saturday Night Live’ #TBT: NASA Could Use More ‘Hidden Figures’

The inner workings of NASA have fascinated moviegoers in movies like Apollo 13, Armageddon, and this year, Hidden Figures.

The bit both parodies Gravity and sends up the government shutdown of that year. Cecily Strong and Taran Killam play two astronauts (a la Sandra Bullock and George Clooney) stranded in space. When they call NASA headquarters for help, they find it’s empty. Or almost empty except for one lonely janitor.

“It turns out I’m the only essential employee in the place,” Kenan Thompson jokes. “But I could’ve told you that months ago.”

Spencer hosts with musical guest Father John Misty this Saturday at 11:30 p.m. on NBC. Watch clips and full episodes of SNL for free on Yahoo View.
