‘Saturday Night Live’ #TBT: Kiss of the ‘Spider-Man’

Hope the new Spider-Man practices his kissing technique!

Tom Holland, who debuted as the web slinger in Captain America: Civil War, is headlining his own movie this weekend, Spider-Man: Homecoming. After the iconic upside-down kiss in 2002’s Spider-Man (starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst), any Spidey kissing scenes come with a lot of pressure.

In this throwback Saturday Night Live clip, Maguire’s successor (and Holland’s predecessor) Andrew Garfield poked fun at it with the help of co-star and then-girlfriend Emma Stone.

In the sketch, Garfield and Stone have to film a very romantic kissing scene… but just can’t seem to get it right. First, they touch tongues from the sides of their faces, then they go at each other with open mouths.

The harried director (Taran Killam) suggests they kiss “just like in real life.”

And when they still can’t properly kiss, singer Chris Martin of Coldplay wanders by. He’s more than willing to help out… if they can find him a blonde wig!

SNL returns for its 43rd season this fall on NBC.
