‘Saturday Night Live’ #TBT: Kate McKinnon, Emmy Winner

Kate McKinnon made Saturday Night Live history last year when she won a supporting acting Emmy. It’s an honor that even big stars like Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, and Amy Poehler never got.

Hosts have won guest acting Emmys (in fact, Fey and Poehler shared that award last year). And Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, and Dana Carvey won in the now-defunct Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.

Emmy nominations were announced today, and McKinnon received her fourth straight nomination as a supporting comedy actress. If she submits any of her performances as Hillary Clinton from last fall’s run-up to the election, she could very well have a second Emmy to put on her shelf.

Last year, McKinnon submitted the episode hosted by Ariana Grande. Her highlight moment came in the “Mermaids” sketch, in which a trio of sailors are rescued by two fair mermaids and McKinnon, who is 35 percent woman and 65 percent blobfish. And poor Beck Bennett gets paired up with her… and this is one siren he wishes he can turn off.

SNL returns for its 43rd season this fall on NBC.
