‘Saturday Night Live’ #TBT: Here Comes Hanukkah, So Much Funukkah!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year — Hanukkah!
The Jewish holiday begins Saturday, Dec. 24, this year, and observers around the world will light their menorahs for eight consecutive nights. Saturday Night Live has celebrated the holiday in its own way over the years, with characters like Hanukkah Harry and Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy explaining the meaning of the Festival of Lights.

But perhaps no sketch is as memorable as Adam Sandler’s famous “Hanukkah Song.” He debuted it during “Weekend Update” in 1994, and since then, he has included it on his comedy album and performed it live as recently as last year. As he explained in the first performance, “I wrote a song for all those nice little Jewish kids who don’t get to hear any Hanukkah songs.”

The song name-checks celebrities with Jewish heritage, including David Lee Roth, James Caan, and Kirk Douglas. And the best part? “Instead of one day of presents, we have eight crazy nights!”
SNL returns with host Felicity Jones and musical guest Sturgill Simpson on Jan. 14.
