'Saturday Night Live' #TBT: The Zagat's Guide Breaks Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler is perhaps one of Saturday Night Live’s most successful alums, with hit movies like Billy Madison, The Wedding Singer, and Grown Ups. And he’s got a new movie out this weekend, Pixels (whether that will kill or flop at the box office remains to be seen). So, that’s all the excuse we needed to re-watch some of his best sketches in our SNL archive.

Sandler’s had plenty of classic bits, featuring his silly songs to “Weekend Update” characters, but we decided to highlight this one because it’s so funny, it even made him laugh during the sketch!

The sketch, from 1995, is “Zagat’s Restaurant Guide Commentary” and also features the late Chris Farley. Farley plays Bev, while Sandler is her husband, Hank. Bev is reading from the famous guide, while Hank can barely hide his boredom.

But Farley is so good as inane housewife Bev that Sandler can barely hide his laughter. As Bev croons that a steakhouse’s “sensual setting will set the mood for any romantic rendezvous” and rubs her husband’s leg, Sandler comes close to the edge. Breaking is a time-honored SNL tradition, one that even the best players couldn’t avoid.
