‘Saturday Night Live’ #TBT: A New Day for Mr. Bunting

A new season of Saturday Night Live usually brings some new faces, and for its 42nd installment, the late night sketch show is adding three new cast members: Alex Moffat, Melissa Villasenor, and Mikey Day.

Day is already part of the SNL family, having been a writer there for three years. He’s co-written several memorable sketches, including “Close Encounter” (the alien abduction bit that made Ryan Gosling break).

Day also co-wrote one of the funniest sketches in the Season 41 finale, “Farewell, Mr. Bunting.” Host Fred Armisen returned to Studio 8H to play a version of Robin Williams’s character in Dead Poets Society. As his teacher departs, his students stand on their desks, shouting, “I sing my song for all to hear!” (their version of “Oh captain, my captain”).

But the parody took a very weird, totally bizarre, superbloody, and absolutely hilarious turn at the end — which we won’t spoil. It’s just too good not to watch for yourself.

Saturday Night Live Season 42 premieres Oct. 1. The host has not yet been announced.
