Samantha Bee Bids Teary Goodbye to 'The Daily Show'

Samantha Bee, the longest-serving member of The Daily Show With Jon Stewart’s correspondent team, has left the building.

She made her final appearance on the show Thursday night, with Stewart beginning a seven-minute segment with a string of memorable highlights from 12 years of deadpan interviews and reports — ranging from her coverage of three Republican National Conventions to that time she got her face stuck in a penis pump.

The pieces Stewart enjoyed best from Bee were those closest to her heart, he said, before rolling clips of her covering women’s and LGBT rights, race relations, and child tobacco labor.

Bee then walked out to wave farewell to the crowd and embrace Stewart, with both of them working hard to hold back tears.

Viewers will likely see more of Bee’s smart, satirical take on current events on TBS. Last month, the network announced that it’s in the early stages of developing a comedy show for her to host — which she will executive produce with her husband, fellow Daily Show alum Jason Jones. The duo also created and will executive produce a scripted comedy series for TBS inspired by their own experiences with family getaways. Jones and Justified’s Natalie Zea will star in that series, which will begin filming this summer and premiere later this year.
