Samantha Bee Finds Avid Trump Supporters in Very Unlikely Place
On Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, Sam headed to northern Iraq to chat with Kurdish people who, surprisingly, are big fans of Donald Trump. The Kurds are the largest ethnic group in the world without their own country, and they inhabit parts of Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Syria. The Kurdish population mostly practices some form of Islam, so it’s surprising that so many love the president, who has repeatedly attempted to ban Muslims from entering the United States. But many of the Kurds in these countries are simply happy that Trump is supporting their fight against ISIS. Trump became the first U.S. president to arm the Kurds directly when he authorized the Department of Defense to equip Kurdish elements of the Syrian Democratic Forces to help defeat ISIS.
Little Kurdish Trump
But it was surprising to see just how much affection the Kurds have for Trump. Sam was talking to a couple who had a young child, and she asked them to introduce their son. The gentleman said, “This is my son, Trump. I’ve called him Trump since the day he was born.” When Sam asked why he named his son “Trump,” the man said about his son, “Well, he is angry, very angry, just like him. Although he is so little, sometimes I cannot handle him.” And when little Kurdish Trump started throwing a fit, Sam joked, “The similarities are stunning. He needs Fox & Friends, stat!”
