Sacha Baron Cohen Shares Clip Too Graphic for TV

Sacha Baron Cohen gave a rare appearance as himself — and not one of his characters, such as Borat, Bruno, or Ali G — on Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. He shared his struggle with the Motion Picture Association of America to bring his new film, The Brothers Grimsby, from an NC-17 rating to an R. When he asked to show a clip of the film, Jimmy said, “Standards and practices here at ABC, which is our network censor, said that we can not air the clip.”

Sacha led the audience into a chant of “Show us the clip,” guilting Jimmy into relenting, but he would only show it inside the studio, and not air it on TV. And even then, he warned them about the graphic nature of the clip and invited anyone to leave who wished to do so.

Then Jimmy and Guillermo joined the audience and let the home viewers observe their reaction. For a few moments, the studio audience laughed. Then they cringed. And around the time we heard the trumpeting of an elephant, they screamed.

Jimmy returned to his desk and said, “That’s one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35 pm on ABC.
