Watch: ‘SNL’ Cast Begs Michael Keaton to Reprise Batman, Beetlejuice

Michael Keaton may have been recently nominated for an Oscar for his critically acclaimed turn in “Birdman,” but it should be little surprise that his two truly most iconic characters — Batman and Beetlejuice — were mentioned right away when Keaton returned to “Saturday Night Live” this weekend.

In Keaton’s first “SNL” hosting gig in more than two decades, castmembers Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan crashed his opening monologue, and went into full fanboy mode as they asked Keaton a favor.

“Will you play Batman with us, Michael Keaton?” the two comedians sing. “Come on put the suit, we’ll be the villains that you’ve beaten!”

Keaton doesn’t particularly like the idea at first, but Killam and Moynihan are persistent. The bit even includes a bit of badly edited video, which superimposes the Batman and Beetlejuice costumes onto backstage footage of Keaton as Killam and Moynihan play supporting characters from the movies, such as Killam imitating Jack Nicholson’s Joker.

Keaton played the Caped Crusader in 1989 and then reprised the role with “Batman Returns” in 1992. He starred as the titular character in “Beetlejuice” in 1988.

It’s a struggle, but by the end, and with some help from back-up singers, Killam and Moynihan finally get Keaton to crack… a little. Watch the video below.
