Watch: First Trailer for MTV’s ‘The Shannara Chronicles’

MTV released the first look at “The Shannara Chronicles,” its upcoming fantasy series, Sunday night during the Video Music Awards, debuting another dive into scripted fare.

MTV’s new series is based on the best-selling fantasy books by Terry Brooks. It follows Elvin princess Amberle, human rover Eretria and half-elf, half-human Wil as they embark on a quest to stop an evil demon army from destroying the world. It takes place centuries after Earth’s current civilization has destroyed itself through a nuclear holocaust.

Poppy Drayton, Ivana Baquero and Austin Butler play Amberle, Eretria and Wil, respectively. “Dexter” alum James Remar, Brooke Williams, Daniel MacPherson and Marcus Vanco also star.

Al Gough and Miles Millar serve as executive producers and showrunners. Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, Brooks, Dan Farah and Gene Stein are exec producers, with Liebesman directing the first two episodes. MTV is producing with Sonar Entertainment.

“The Shannara Chronicles” will debut on MTV in 2016.
