Warner Bros. Space Thriller 'Gravity' to Open Venice Film Festival
'Gravity' Star Sandra Bullock to Receive Acting Honor at Hollywood Film Awards (Exclusive)
LONDON – Alfonso Cuaron-directed Warner Bros. space thriller Gravity will open the 70th edition of the Venice International Film Festival, organizers said Wednesday.
The film starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney will have its world premiere at the Italian fest and be part of its out-of-competition lineup.
The festival, directed by Alberto Barbera, will take place Aug. 28-Sept. 7. The world premiere of Gravity will be screened in 3D following the opening ceremony.
Cuaron's history with the festival dates back to 2001 when his film Y tu mama tambien won the Golden Osella award for best screenplay and the Marcello Mastroianni Award for actors Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna.
In 2006, Cuaron's Children of Men won the Golden Osella for best cinematography, honoring Emmanuel Lubezki who is also the director of photography on Gravity.
