‘Voice’ Tops ‘Dancing’ Finale as NBC Takes Tuesday in Demos

NBC, with a lineup as varied as you’ll see in primetime, captured Tuesday in key demos as “The Voice” beat ABC’s finale of “Dancing With the Stars,” which logged its lowest-rated finale to date. CBS, usually at or near the top on Tuesdays, aired all repeats.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, NBC opened the night a winner with its NBC News special “Devastation in Oklahoma” (2.0 rating/6 share in adults 18-49, 8.2 million viewers overall), and followed that up with “The Voice” (3.1/9 in 18-49, 10.0 million viewers overall), which was the night’s No. 1 show in 18-49 and 25-54 (4.0/10) but declined for the fourth straight week for a Tuesday season low. And closing out Tuesday, “Grimm” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall) was on par with last week and up a tick from its first-season finale on a Friday last year.

ABC, which finished a close second to NBC on the night in 18-49 and tied with it in adults 25-54, opened with sluggish results for the special “The Bachelor’s Funniest Moments” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall). And from 9 to 11 p.m., “Dancing With the Stars” (2.6/7 in 18-49, 14.9 million viewers overall) shot up more than 40% (0.8) from last week’s results show but still finished down 21% from last spring’s finale (3.3) and off 13% from its fall finale earlier this season (3.0). “Dancing” was held down some in its first hour by the double-barreled reality competition from NBC and Fox, earning a 2.35 rating in 18-49 in the 9 o’clock hour but then hitting a 2.9 with its final half-hour.

It was also easily the night’s most-watched program overall as ABC cruised on the night in total viewers.

At Fox, “So You Think You Can Dance” (1.9/6 in 18-49, 4.6 million viewers overall) expanded to its two-hour format and held up well, matching its 18-49 score of last week’s hourlong premiere. In adults 18-34, it edged out ABC’s “Dancing” head to head in the 9 o’clock hour (1.6 to 1.5).

CBS aired special repeats of “NCIS: Los Angeles” at 8 (1.3/4 in 18-49, 7.7 million viewers overall) and “NCIS” at both 9 (1.3/3 in 18-49, 7.8 million viewers overall) and 10 (1.4/4 in 18-49, 7.2 million viewers overall).

CW went with special repeats of “The Vampire Diaries” (0.3/1 in 18-49, 0.8 million viewers overall) and “America’s Next Top Model” (0.3/1 in 18-49, 0.6 million viewers overall).

Univision novelas claimed the night’s No. 6 and 7 rankings in adults 18-49: “Amores Verdaderos” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall) and “Porque el Amor Manda” (1.5/5 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 2.3/7; ABC, 2.1/6; Fox, 1.9/6; Univision, 1.4/4; CBS, 1.3/4; CW, 0.3/1.

In total viewers; ABC, 11.5 million; NBC, 7.8 million; CBS, 7.5 million; Fox, 4.6 million; Univision, 3.5 million; CW, 0.7 million.
