The Voice Results: Did the Right Contestants Make the Season 4 Top 12?

Adam Levine tried to pull a fast one on tonight’s episode of The Voice, and (read this next part using your Scooby-Doo villain voice), if it weren’t for that crazy kid Carson Daly, he might’ve gotten away with it!

Indeed, on Top 16 results night, each of the coaches saw his or her team cut from four contestants down to three — with America voting through its two favorites, and the coaches choosing between their two at-risk acts for a spot in the Top 12.

The results for Adam’s protégés, not surprisingly, were held till the end of the episode — likely because most Voice fans considered his quartet of female vocalists to be the deepest and most closely matched of any team this season.

And yet, with only a minute left in the game, the credits beginning to roll across the bottom of the screen, and a fresh episode of SVU in the hopper, Adam refused to make the call between Sarah Simmons and Caroline Glaser.

Carson pleaded and cajoled. Adam hemmed and hawed. Carson practically stamped his feet. Adam said something about how “music is more important than a game.”

Deep down, I hoped that the clock would run out, we’d cut to Det. Benson investigating some “especially heinous” crime, and Mark Burnett would give a last-minute reprieve to both Sarah and Caroline and bring back a Top 13 next Monday night. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. So with that, let’s cut to the results:

TEAM BLAKE
Voted through by America: Holly Tucker, Danielle Bradbery
Saved by Blake: The Swon Brothers (what’s Blake’s fascination with these fellas?)
Eliminated: Justin Rivers (aw, bummer!)

TEAM SHAKIRA
Voted through by America: Sasha Allen, Kris Thomas
Saved by Shakira: Garrett Gardner
Eliminated: Karina Iglesias (I’d have rather seen Garrett go)

TEAM USHER
Voted through by America: Michelle Chamuel, Vedo
Saved by Usher: Josiah Hawley
Eliminated: Cathia

TEAM ADAM
Voted through by America: Judith Hill (despite a lackluster iTunes showing), Amber Carrington (#TeamAmber)
Saved by Adam: Sarah Simmons
Eliminated: Caroline Glaser

In other news, Carson announced that due to “inconsistencies” observed by Telescope, the show’s vote-monitoring and -counting company, that text and online voting were thrown out this week, though it ultimately had no effect on the results. Fair enough. And I appreciated the frankness with which the minor scandale was addressed.

Anyhow, what did you think of this week’s Voice results? Did any decisions left you shocked or upset? Any pleasant surprises? And what did you think of the night’s guest performers?
