‘The View’ Loses 3 More Advertisers Over #NursesUnite Controversy
“The View” has lost three more major advertisers in the wake of the ongoing #NursesUnite controversy.
Party City, Snuggle and McCormick all removed their ads from the ABC daytime talk show. All three companies announced their withdrawals on their respective Facebook pages.
They join Eggland’s Best and Johnson & Johnson, who removed their advertising earlier this week following backlash from nurses over mocking comments made about a contestant in Sunday’s Miss America pageant.
“In response to recent comments made on ‘The View,’ Party City has decided to pause its advertising accordingly,” wrote Party City on Facebook.
“Thank you for expressing your concerns. Like you, we also value and admire nurses, so we have paused advertising on the daytime television show in question,” McCormick wrote.
In it’s post, Snuggle explained that the placement of its ads was not an endorsement of the program, but selected based on a timeslot. However, the company removed their ads to support nurses.
“As a supporter of nurses, we disagree with the comments made on daytime television and have paused our advertising for that program,” the company wrote. “Please join us in thanking and celebrating nurses for the critical role they play in our healthcare system.”

The show received criticism for jokes made mocking Kelley Johnson, who delivered an original monologue about her nursing career when competing as Miss Colorado in Sunday’s Miss America pageant.
“The talent, though, I have to say, the woman who won sang opera, and she was incredible. Really good,” said co-host Michelle Collins. “But then there was a girl who wrote her own monologue and I was like, ‘Turn the volume up, this is going be amazing, let’s listen.’ She came out in a nurse’s uniform and basically read her emails out loud and shockingly did not win … it was hilarious.”
“Why does she have a doctor’s stethoscope on?” Behar asked Collins, who replied: “She helps patients with Alzheimer’s, which I know is not funny, but I swear you had to see it.”

The hosts first apologized for the comments on Tuesday.
Party City, Snuggle and McCormick’s announced on Thursday that they were withdrawing their adds from the show. On Friday’s episode, the talker hosted two nurses to discuss their work.
“After we made comments about the Miss America broadcast and the talent performance by Miss Colorado, we heard from many of you,” Joy Behar said on the show. “You let us know you were offended by some of our comments and believe me, we were listening. We apologize for our remarks and we know how vitally important nurses are.”
