The drama, which earned a Golden Globe nomination for Callie Thorne last year, returns Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 10/9c with the remaining five episodes of Season 2.
"It's a show that we really like even though the second season was a little bit more, maybe, internal in its storytelling than we would have liked, but they're really embracing blowing it out in the third season," USA Co-President Jeff Wachtel told TVGuide.com at the cable network's winter TV preview session Monday. "Similar to what Covert Affairs did this year where one of the main characters all of a sudden exploded and it was this incredible theme of Annie and the bad girl, the teenager and the evil stepmom — we're really going to swing for the fences with that type of storytelling on Necessary."

Wachtel also said that there have been talks about bringing in one new major character in Season 3, but he stressed those discussions are in the very early stages.
Necessary's fellow USA shows Suits, White Collar, Covert Affairs, Burn Notice, Psych and Royal Pains have already been renewed.
