‘Under the Dome’ Down 12% in Second Week, Still Looking Good for CBS

UPDATED WITH NATIONAL RATINGS

CBS summer drama “Under the Dome” — one of seven original English-language scripted dramas airing in Monday’s final hour of primetime — declined modestly from its strong premiere last week, dominating its time period and standing as easily the night’s top show.

Among “Dome’s” victims Monday were NBC’s new “Siberia,” which opened modestly despite getting a solid lead-in from reality show “American Ninja Warrior.”

According to national estimates from Nielsen, “Under the Dome” averaged a 2.9 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 and 11.82 million viewers overall in the 10 o’clock hour — off 12% from last week in the demo (from 3.3) and down 13% in total viewers (13.53m). The drama based on a Stephen King novel had a weaker lead-in this week (1.6 demo rating for a “Big Bang Theory” repeat vs. the 2.0 it did last Monday).

A second-week audience loss of 10-20% is certainly standard for most shows, and “Under the Dome” has more than enough cushion to absorb some declines. A week ago, it became the biggest drama premiere in young adults since NBC’s “Revolution” last September and was the most-watched new summer drama overall in more than 20 years.

“Under the Dome” is one of three original scripted broadcast dramas in its time period — something that hasn’t happened during the summer months in years, if ever. It was joined by four original cable dramas (and there’s USA’s “WWE Raw,” but we won’t count that here).

For those keeping score, the 18-49 tallies for scripted dramas Monday were:

“Under the Dome” (CBS) 2.9
“Mistresses” (ABC) 1.1
“Siberia” (NBC) 1.1
Longmire (A&E) 0.7
Teen Wolf (MTV) 0.7
King & Maxwell (TNT) 0.5
Warehouse 13 (Syfy) 0.5

And in total viewers (in millions):

“Under the Dome” (CBS) 11.82
“Mistresses” (ABC) 3.62
“Siberia” (NBC) 3.07
“Longmire” (A&E) 3.49
“King & Maxwell” (TNT) 2.78
“Teen Wolf” (MTV) 1.63
“Warehouse 13″ (Syfy) 1.42

Elsewhere Monday, NBC did pretty well with the two-hour season premiere of “American Ninja Warrior” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 5.04 million viewers overall), even if this represented a 29% tumble from its year-ago premiere (2.4), which came in May and benefited from a big “America’s Got Talent” lead-in. “Ninja” ranked a close second in 18-49 from 8 to 10 p.m. to ABC’s “The Bachelorette” (1.8/6 in 18-49, 6.34 million viewers overall) and moved ahead of the dating show in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour (2.0 to 1.9).

Not looking so good for the Peacock was the 10 p.m. premiere of “Siberia” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 3.07m), which finished neck and neck with ABC’s “Mistresses” (1.2/3 in 18-49, 3.62m), with the Alphabet drama matching its season low of last week. Combined, “Mistresses” and “Siberia” still finished well behind CBS’ “Under the Dome.”

CBS comfortably won the (mostly) repeat comedy battle with Fox from 8 to 10. The Eye went with all encores, starting with “How I Met Your Mother” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 4.21m), followed by “Mike & Molly” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 4.42m), “2 Broke Girls” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 5.01m) and “The Big Bang Theory” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.83m).

Over at Fox, “Raising Hope” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 2.06m) was followed by the finale of “The Goodwin Games” (0.6/2 in 18-49, 1.49m) and repeats of “New Girl” (0.5/2 in 18-49, 1.29m) and “The Mindy Project” (0.5/1 in 18-49, 1.25m).

CBS won the night in adults 18-49 (1.8/6) and total viewers (7.2 million).
