Summers today, two months after his accident

TV fans held their collective breath this summer when “Double Dare” and “Unwrapped” host Marc Summers was involved in a near-fatal car crash that resulted in serious facial injuries. But two months later, we’re all relieved to know that Summers is “doing much better”; in fact, those were Summers’ exact words when we spoke to him earlier today about his ongoing recovery.

The crash happened back in August when Summers was riding in a taxi during a heavy downpour in Philadelphia; the cab skidded on the water and crashed, slamming Summers against the partition, which severely damaged his face. “Everything on the left side from my eye socket down was just wiped out,” he told People at the time. The accident led to extensive surgery for Summers, with titanium being inserted into his face, but he recently learned he’ll need another operation to fix the placement of his left eye. “In a perfect world, it’ll be the last one,” he tells us with a laugh.

Summers estimates that he’s looking at a “90-day recovery” period after his next surgery. “I’m just trying to stay positive and be optimistic,” he says. But even a near-death experience can’t keep the longtime host and TV producer on the shelf for long. Summers is already doing personal appearances and back at work producing Food Network’s “Restaurant: Impossible,” as well as developing two more pilots for the network.

And he’s been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support he’s received from fans since the accident. “It’s been unbelievable… I’m so touched,” he says. “You know, I’ve been on TV for 27 years, and you never realize how many people care about you.” Well, on behalf on “Double Dare” fans everywhere, here’s hoping Marc passes this “physical challenge” with flying colors.
