Trebek Calls Tournament Winner ‘Most Dominant’ He’s Ever Seen

When Alex Trebek describes a Jeopardy win as “the most dominant performance by anyone in any of our tournaments,” it’s safe to say it must have been a good outing. Jeopardy’s Tournament of Champions final featured two of the heaviest hitters from this year’s crop of trivia dynamos: Matt Jackson and Alex Jacob. Jackson took the Internet by storm most recently with his dominating run in early October, while former poker player Jacob made headlines in April for employing game theory that involved jumping around the board searching for Daily Doubles, a strategy that was on full display during the finals.

Jackson came into Day 2 of the final behind and looked to make up ground on Jacob after selecting a Daily Double. Jackson wagered everything, and his incorrect answer dropped him well behind Jacob, effectively ending his championship chances on the spot. Alex Jacob walked away with a quarter of a million dollars and was clearly emotional following his victory.
