Toronto 2012: Snoop Dogg on Why He Supports Barack Obama
Snoop Dogg's Jamaican Reincarnation
TORONTO – Snoop Dogg is calling on Americans to stick with Barack Obama.
“They need to give Obama four more years, man. Bush f--- up for eight years. So you got to give him another four,” the rap star-turned-Rastafarian Snoop Lion in the Andy Capper documentary Reincarnated declared Friday as he held court during a Toronto International Film Festival press conference.
The dogfather in not so many words said Obama was doing a good job cleaning out the Augean stables.
“It’s not like they (Republicans) gave him a clean house. They gave him a house where the TV didn’t work, the toilet was stuffed up. Everything was wrong with the house,” he recalled of the 2008 White House handover.
Snoop Dogg also gives the U.S. president full marks for ridding America of Osama Bin Laden.
“Anyways, he knocked down our most hated and most wanted, the one who had our terror (alert) on orange and red or whatever color it was on. He went and found him, the one that Bush couldn’t seem to find, the one who seemed to fly away on the day of 9/11 and all that,” he said, holding the TIFF media contingent in rapt attention.
“And anyone who can go in peace now and walk around, he made that happen. So please don’t forget that. So give him four years to get his thing together,” Snoop Dogg added.
And while talking Friday about the spiritual awakening he received during a month-long shoot in Jamaica for Reincarnated, and making a recent Reggae album, Snoop Dogg appealed to yet another higher power as he threw his weight behind Obama and his re-election campaign.
“You heard what Clinton said. And you like Clinton, do ya?” he declared, citing the former U.S. president's keynote speech at the Democratic convention.
Snoop Dogg’s appearance at TIFF came as Reincarnated, from Vice Films, had its world premiere in Toronto.
The Toronto International Film Festival continues to September 16.
