TNT’s ‘Major Crimes’ Dips In Return, ‘King & Maxwell’ Debuts OK

Monday saw one TNT series return for a second season while another launched. Back for its sophomore cycle the cable broadcaster’s Major Crimes garnered just over 5 million viewers with 1.2 million among Adults 18-49 and 1.5 million among Adults 25-54 at 9 PM. That’s down from the 7.2 million who watched The Closer spinoff’s debut on August 13, 2012. The ensemble crime drama also slipped from the 1.5 million and 2.0 million it garnered in its premiere among the key demos respectively. That being said, last year’s Major Crimes debut was right after the series finale of The Closer on TNT. The Season 7 Closer ender drew 9.1 million viewers with 2 million among the 18-49 and 2.7 million among Adults 25-54. Monday’s result sees Major Crimes as the top scripted show on basic cable for the year among returning shows. The second season has been set for 19 episodes, almost double what Season 1 was.

In terms of new shows, King And Maxwell had its debut last night right after Major Crimes. The P.I. series pulled in 3.5 million total viewers with 825,000 among Adults 18-49 and a bit more than 1 million among Adults 25-54. An OK start by TNT standards, that result for the CBS Studios produced show starring Rebecca Romijn and Jon Tenney does still make King And Maxwell one of the Top 5 debuts this year for a new scripted series on basic cable.
