Telefilm Canada Head Carolle Brabant Renews Contract With Ottawa
TORONTO – Top Canadian film financier Carolle Brabant has re-upped with Ottawa to be executive director of Telefilm Canada.
The reappointment for a second three-year term follows a banner year for Canadian film, with Kim Nguyen’s Rebelle contending at the Academy Awards in the best foreign language category.
Brabant was originally named to head up the federal government's film finance agency in 2010, where she oversees an investment of around $100 million annually in Canadian film.
During that period, the Telefilm Canada film slate has succeeded with both indie arthouse pics that play well on the festival circuit and more popular films like David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, Deepa Mehta’s Midnight’s Children and Philippe Falardeau’s upcoming The Good Lie drama that stars Reese Witherspoon.
“Thanks to our hugely talented creators and remarkably dynamic entrepreneurs, our cinema is building an increasingly strong brand image, and we’re planning to make sure that translates into a real boost in the size of audiences on the greatest possible number of platforms here at home and abroad,” Brabant said in a statement Friday.
