TCA: MTV Announces Miley Cyrus Doc, Finds ‘Scream’ Writing Duo

Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin will pen MTV’s small screen adaptation of “Scream,” it was announced today at the network’s TCA session.

Pair’s credits include “Criminal Minds,” “Revenge” and “The Event.” MTV revealed it would be piloting the horror franchise at its Upfront in May.

Cabler has also lined up an hourlong doc centering on Miley Cyrus, to be produced by the MTV News and Docs team. Special will follow Cyrus as she works on her new album and delve into her personal life. MTV plans to bow the documentary this fall.

MTV has picked up the following pilots, as well: “Faking It” from Carter Covington and “Happyland” from Ben Epstein, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. Pilot pickups, along with the progress of “Scream,” represent the network’s continued, broad-ranging investment in the scripted space, which MTV has seen noted success in with youth-skewing series “Awkward” and “Teen Wolf.”
