Stephen Colbert's new CBS gig doesn't mean he's backing away from race-based humor on “The Colbert Report.”

On the same night he appeared with David Letterman, the man he's destined to replace at “The Late Show,” Colbert's own “Colbert Report” took a hilarious excursion to California's 29th Congressional district. The host sat down with Democratic congressman Tony Cárdenas, who represents the district, which includes parts of the San Fernando Valley.

Because the district has lots of porn companies, Colbert's first question was about whether he could safely buy a couch there. But then he got into lots of questions involving Cárdenas’ Mexican-American ancestry.

“What does pendejo mean? I get that yelled at me a lot,” Colbert asked. “Does that mean like handsome, or quick-witted? Nice hair?”

“Maybe they're not happy with what you said or something,” Cárdenas diplomatically explained.

“Oh. It's like I respectfully disagree with you?”

“That's a nice way to put it.”

Colbert also noted that both he and Cárdenas were the youngest of eleven children.

“But the eleven kids in my family are old-timey quaint Irish, whereas the eleven children in your family — and I do not mean this in anything but the best way possible — are kind of scary going to take over the country-ish,” Colbert said.

Cárdenas respectfully disagreed.

From there, the questions devolved into why Cárdenas objects to the term “illegal,” and why he is racist against Chinese chickens. Then Colbert got a very special delivery, and unveiled his porn name: “Caesar Honeybee.”

“Wow,” Caesar told the delivery boy. “That's a big burrito.”

Colbert was accused of racism weeks ago when an out-of-context tweet led to calls to “#CancelColbert.” It soon turned out that Colbert's show would indeed be going off the air, but only because he's moving on to an bigger job.

With the Cárdenas interview, Colbert signaled that he won't stop doing humor about race. Or burritos.
