Starz Orders 50 Cent’s ‘Power’ to Series

Starz has ordered “Power,” a drama from Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Courtney Kemp Agboh, to series for 2014.

“Power” centers on James “Ghost” St. Patrick, a wealthy Gotham nightclub owner who wants to turn his club into a Fortune 500 biz. But Ghost is living a double life — when not running his club, he’s the kingpin of New York’s most lucrative drug network.

Variety broke news that the pay TV net was developing the hourlong project back in November. Starz has ordered eight segs for the program’s first run, and will begin lensing “Power” later this year.

Agboh created the skein and will serve as showrunner. Both she and Jackson hold exec producer credits, along with Mark Canton and Randall Emmett, who are producing in association with CBS TV Studios.

“Curtis has a unique and specific vision for the series, lending it an authenticity and voice rarely seen,” said Chris Albrecht, chief of Starz. “Courtney has created a rich world and characters not often explored in contemporary drama. There is a rawness and soul to the character of Ghost as he struggles to live between these two worlds that we believe will leave an indelible mark on the audience and stay with them after the credits roll.”
