Spike TV has made its first step into foodie content.

The male-skewing cable network has greenlit its first food series, “Frankenfood,” for 10 half-hour episodes.

On each episode of “Frankenfood,” executive chef Josh Capon travels nationwide as the show pits amateurs and their unique food combinations against one another. The winner gets $10,000 and their dish gets featured on the menu of a popular local restaurant. Capon and Tony Luke jr. will judge.

Capon is the executive chef and partner at Lure Fishbar, B&B Winepub and El Toro Blanco in New York City. Tony Luke Jr. is the face of nationwide restaurant chain Tony Luke’s.

Sharp Entertainment produces the series with Bob Larson and Matt Sharp serving as executive producers. It goes into production in Fall 2013 and will premiere in Spring 2014.

Known predominately as a men’s network, Spike TV is apparently trying to broaden its audience with this new series, among others.
