From Pariah To Company MVP: The Quiet Rise Of Sony’s TV Division

London, UK (19 November, 2012) — Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has appointed Richard Parsons as senior vice president for corporate business and legal affairs, international production, it was announced today. In this role, Parsons will lead corporate business affairs for SPT’s portfolio of international production companies and manage deal executions on acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic partnerships.

Parsons will report to Corii Berg, SPT’s senior executive vice president, business affairs, in Los Angeles. He takes up his role later this month and will be based at SPT’s London office.

Announcing the appointment, Berg said: “Richard has an impressive track record of executing successful joint ventures and acquisitions on behalf of high profile companies in the global television sector. He brings highly valued expertise, an eye for detail and international knowledge that will support our successful portfolio of 18 production companies and joint ventures around the world, as well as future growth initiatives.”

Parsons will also act as advisor to the president and senior management team of SPT’s international production business, and lead its corporate business affairs management and development.

Parsons most recently served as a consultant for the leading UK media legal practice Wiggin LLP. He previously held the position of chief counsel at Shine Group and, prior to that, was the director of corporate finance and legal affairs at BBC Worldwide. During his time at BBC Worldwide he helped set-up the company’s Content & Production division, working on the establishment of joint ventures and wholly owned production companies in the UK, France, Germany, Argentina, Canada, India, Russia and Australia.
