SNL Ditches Cold Open for Bilingual Message of Solidarity With Paris
Saturday Night Live turned its cold open this week into a warm message of solidarity for the people of Paris, following the multiple shootings and explosions by terrorists there on Friday that left 129 people dead.

In lieu of the traditional kickoff sketch, an emotional Cecily Strong, dressed in black, took the stage with no introduction or music, and delivered the following message: “Paris is the City of Light, and here in New York City, we know that light will never go out. Our love and support is with everyone there tonight. We stand with you.”

Strong then repeated the message in French, before solemnly delivering the show’s signature pre-opening-credits catchphrase, “And now, live from New York, it’s Saturday night.”
