Simon Cowell: Louis Walsh Is The Most Popular Person In The Country

Simon Cowell – never one to exactly shy away from making the odd ‘controversial’ statement, is he? Well, this week he’s been on familiar form yet again, and his specialist subject is none other than vulnerable adult national treasure, who as we all know 'MAY-OR-MAY-NOT-BE-OOOH-IT’S-ALL-SO-UNEXPECTED’ be returning to The X Factor.

The reason for Louis’ return? No, not an attempt to boost struggling ratings dear reader – how could you be so cynical? In fact, the reason Lou-Lou is back on our screens for the 47th time this year is because – according to Simon at least – he’s the most popular person in the country.

Yes, Louis Walsh – the nation’s sweetheart, and the paragon of virtue of which the rest of us mere mortals should measure ourselves against.

The Duchess of Cambridge? Nadiya off of The Great British Bake Off? The British Paralympic Team? Doctor Foster? NOTHING IN COMPARISON TO OUR BELOVED LOUIS.

Speaking to The Sun this weekend, Simon said that it was Louis’ Mother Theresa-levels of popularity that made him want to bring him back into The X Factor Fold:

“I spoke to Louis and I said, ‘I don’t know what has happened, but you are suddenly the most popular person in this country’. And he said, ‘I know’.”

(See guys? The Walsh is popular AND humble. A modern-day St.Francis).

“I can’t explain it. I think people obviously miss him. For Louis’ sake, it has been good for him not being on the show and seeing how many people like him.I think it also woke him up a bit. He was the first to say — and me as well — that I don’t think we were totally on top of our game.

“If he gets the chance to do another show like this I think he will be a lot more confident.”

But for those fearing that a Louis-shaped re-introduction to the show would mean one of the other judges getting the boot, FEAR NOT. Nobody’s going anywhere, apparently:

“We are not getting rid of anyone, that’s for sure. There is talk about possibilities of guest judges, so that is where Louis could fit in.

“We can make a slightly bigger desk. We will run through the ideas.”

A bigger desk?! Christ, you’re blowing our minds, Simon. You can see how the show became the mega-hit it did, what with innovative ideas like that behind it.

Anyway, despite (or maybe because of) the hysteria, we’re still very much 'on board’ for Louis’ return to the show – even if nobody really knows what he’ll ACTUALLY be doing - aside from making the tea, that is.
