The 1996 horror flick Scream is making a comeback — but not on the big screen. MTV is currently developing a TV series inspired by the Scream franchise, TVLine reports.

The project is being spearheaded by former MTV execs Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley, who are reportedly looking for someone to write the pilot.

The original Scream film, starring David Arquette, Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, earned $173 million worldwide. Combined with the three sequels, the franchise brought in a total of $500 million globally.

The films were written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Wes Craven. No word yet on whether the two will be involved in the TV series.
