Foley has been promoted to series regular for the third season of Scandal, TVGuide.com has learned.

The Grey's Anatomy, True Blood and Felicity alum joined the series in the second half of Season 2 as Jake Ballard, an apparent love interest for Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) who turned out to be spying on her for the President (Tony Goldwyn).

It was later revealed that he was also a member of B613, a CIA Black Ops division that threw him in a dungeon-like hole in the closing moments of the season finale because he went against orders in regards to Olivia. However, his new series regular status should give fans hope for Jake's future.

"I'm thrilled to join such a talented, enthusiastic and professional group of people," Foley said in a statement. "Shonda [Rhimes] and company have created a troupe of layered complex characters and to be able to be part of that is both exciting and humbling."
