R.I.P. George Jones

The country music superstar had been admitted to Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center with high fever and irregular blood pressure, and died this morning, according to multiple reports. He was 81. George Jones‘ hits included “She Thinks I Still Care” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” In 2008, he was a Kennedy Center honoree, and last year received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. But the Texas-born singer was also known for his rocky personal life which included struggles with cocaine and alcohol addiction and four marriages — including one to country music icon Tammy Wynette. He earned the nickname “No Show Jones” after he failed to appear for several concerts. Many television shows including Nashville and The Wire featured Jones’ music. He also appeared in movies including The Longest Yard and Smokey And The Good Time Outlaws.
